A number of important Scheme developments come into effect from 12th October 2009 of which members will need to be aware. The Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) has been created to help prevent unsuitable people from working with children and vulnerable adults.

Bookings are now being taken for the eagerly-awaited annual English UK North Academic Conference which is being held at the University of Sheffield on Saturday, 17^th October 2009. The opening plenary will be presented by Mario Rinvolucri and participants will have the opportunity to network and attend a range of sessions on CPD, skills development and new ideas. BELTE (Brighton English Language Training Event) is a new event in the world of ELT. The rationale is to focus attention on the region as a centre of English Teaching excellence and is anticipated to be an informal event, rather than a ‘conference’, for teachers as well as managers.

English UK is now accepting proposals for workshops and presentations for the annual Teachers' Conference that takes place in London on Saturday 14th November 2009.
