A charity with the motto "Communicate to Integrate" has been awarded one of the first Eddie Byers awards from English UK.

When asylum-seekers and refugees arrive in the North-West, it is often to Asylum Link in Liverpool that they come for support.

A charity which supports refugees to rebuild their lives in the UK by helping them get English qualifications for work and education is the first recipient of the Eddie Byers Scholarship fund.

"I think the best is to go and live with people in England and study. I was very lucky - I went to Oxford and stayed with fantastic people.  I made a lot of progress.

"I don't stop recommending English in the UK! Three of my friends did it - one went to Cardiff and another went to Oxford. Definitely I think this is the best way to learn."
