In January 2017, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy published an Industrial Strategy green paper. At the February Tourism Industry Council, an agreement was reached that the tourism sector would push for a tourism sector deal.
The Government's plans for an industrial strategy call for sectors to pitch for a deal. This has presented a one-off opportunity for tourism to be recognised as an industry of the future, backed by Government.
Government has stated that those sectors with the broadest reach, and ability to speak with "one voice", are the likeliest to achieve a sector deal.
The bid is being facilitated by VisitBritain who is helping the industry-led working groups develop proposals for the final submission.
For this purpose, VisitBritain launched a consultation on this potential new sector deal for tourism, and are keen to gather a range of responses from across the sector.
All tourism businesses are invited to help shape the submission through our consultation, particularly small and medium sized organisations.
We would like to encourage English UK members in the sector to contribute to the formulation of the proposal to ensure a positive outcome for the industry in the future.
