The Centre for English Language Education (CELE) is part of the School of Education at the University of Nottingham, which is in the top 50 worldwide in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023. CELE is also accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK, which ensures high-quality teaching, facilities and support. We provide academic English language and study skills courses to develop your language skills to the level required for your degree study. You can progress through up to four English for Academic Purposes stages, depending on your language level. Courses range from 6–40 weeks, the length you study will depend on your current level of English and the level you need to achieve for your degree course. We have start dates throughout the year and have specialist subject courses over the summer. The courses will help you to improve your use of academic English through real academic tasks such as written assignments, presentations, seminar discussions and oral assessments. There are no formal exams but you will be assessed to ensure you are ready to progress to the next stage of your course or start your degree. If you are completing an academic course at the University of Nottingham, you will also benefit from free academic English language support courses and one-to-one consultations to help you develop your English and study skills while studying your degree.
