English UK member centre, Studio Cambridge, celebrated it's 60th birthday earlier this month. The 60th birthday party was held at the school in Cambridge on 1 April and was celebrated with over 200 current students, staff and teachers, along with former staff members and many of their partners from around the region who make their work possible: Cambridge University colleges (where the centre run some of their summer programmes), tour companies, taxi and bus companies, insurance brokers, printers, even punters (from the river Cam)!
Refreshments included typical English birthday party fare, such as scones with jam and cream and a delicious Studio Cambridge logo-ed cake from the famous Fitzbillies Bakery.
Managing Director Malcolm Mottram thanked everyone for coming, and asked everyone to think of the 200,000 students who have studied English at Studio Cambridge over the years. He said: "They have gone home with good lifelong memories of the UK and of Cambridge, they have learned something of our language and culture, and taught us some of theirs, and they have made friends that often last a lifetime".
Finally, Operations Director Richard Mountford led everyone in singing Happy Birthday (twice), the cake was cut, the candles blown out, the party was enjoyed by all and everyone went home (or back to work).
