UK visa rules for Colombia have changed
What are the changes?
From 26 November 2024, Colombian nationals coming to the UK for up to six months must apply for a visitor visa before travelling.
As a result of this change, Colombian nationals cannot apply for the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).
Statement from English UK:
'We are saddened to learn that visa free travel has been removed for Colombians. Colombia is a growth source market for UK ELT and we know this news will impact our sector. We continue to support our member centres, Colombian agents and students to help them navigate the UK visa regulations.'
Transitional arrangements
There will be a transition period to avoid penalising visitors who already have flights to the UK. Visitors due to arrive in the UK before 15:00 on 24 December 2024 can travel without applying for a visa.
Colombian nationals who do not have a flight booked but intend to travel before 24 December 2024 will have to apply for a visa before they travel.
Visitors who are currently in the UK
Colombian nationals currently in the UK do not need to do anything.
Students in the UK currently (as a non-visa national) but planning to take a holiday in the next few weeks may need to plan for making a visa application if...
a) they are returning to the UK after 24 December, or
b) they are returning before 24 December but do not have any travel booked.
Making a UK visa application
Colombian nationals in the UK for up to six months can submit their UK visitor visa application in any country once they have left the UK. The processing time for visitor applications is up to 15 working days (three weeks).
This must be considered when deciding whether to change travel plans for the holiday period.
