New English UK rulebook includes creation of diversity committee
An updated version of the English UK rules and articles of association has been published.
The new versions – which have been edited for clarity as well as content – were created by a working group led by the London School of English's Timothy Blake. He was supported by long-term members and past members of the English UK board Richard Day and Val Hennessy and current board members Tim Cooke, Shoko Doherty and Leon Zhang, with input from the whole Board of Trustees and in consultation with the wider membership.
The most significant change is the creation of a representation, diversity, inclusion and engagement committee which will encourage a representative spread of candidates to stand for board elections. It will also review the Board's post-election composition and can co-opt up to two new directors if required.
Also new is virtual hustings for board candidates and the wider membership 24 days before the AGM.
We are grateful to Timothy Blake for all his hard work and hope that members find the revised rulebook easier to use.
