Packed meeting schedules and pandas: another successful year for StudyWorld China
Chinese agencies are already signing contracts and sending students to the UK, just days after meetings with educators in three major cities.
Our 2024 StudyWorld China Roadshow brought together 33 UK educators and service providers and 172 study abroad agencies in Chengdu, Beijing and Shanghai in November.
English UK's senior events and training manager Siobhan Baccas said: 'It went really well. The providers had meetings at every slot, and the agents were well-prepared and keen. The Department of Business and Trade organised a session at the headquarters of New Oriental, China's biggest study abroad agency. That was amazing – they treated us as very special guests and there were fantastic networking opportunities there.
'The group bonded and were very supportive of each other, with more experienced educators advising newer ones. And finally – we got to see the pandas in Chengdu!'
Positive feedback and optimism
Feedback for the event has been very positive from agents and educators alike. Overall, 95% were optimistic about UK/ China partnerships in international relationships, and 90% felt that more Chinese students would come to their institutions in the next 12 months.
'The StudyWorld China Roadshow had many wonderful elements that made it a great event to attend - the locations, high quality meetings, clear and helpful information before and during the event and a strong team bringing it all together. Thank you!' said Tom Darke of British Summer School. Adam Ennis of Malvern International said: 'The China Roadshow is always a great event - the agent base that English UK promote to is excellent and the sheer number of high-quality meetings makes us very confident about our future business from China.'
'It makes UK language sector proud; no other country has such a high-profile event for language schools,' commented Joyce Zhang of Embassy Summer.
A post-event survey of participating agencies by BONARD, which supports English UK with organisation, found 29% had already started promoting school programmes, 10% had signed contracts with schools and 7% were about to start sending students.
StudyWorld China 2025 cities
StudyWorld China resumed last year after the pandemic with a two-city programme which sold out rapidly. This year an extra, optional city was added and that format remains for 2025 when the group will have agent meetings in Tier 1 cities Beijing and Guangzhou with the option of adding Wuhan. Bookings will open in the New Year.
