English UK statement following the announcement of a national lockdown on 4 January
On Monday 4 January 2021, the Prime Minister announced a national lockdown for England, instructing people to stay at home.
Similar actions are being taken by the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
With infection rates high and rising across the UK, and the new more transmissible variant of Covid-19 in circulation, English UK is recommending that its member centres review their risk assessments and switch temporarily to remote learning wherever possible.
Students should contact their teaching centre with any questions or concerns.
English UK continues to provide essential business support to its members and to lobby the Government for assistance for UK ELT, which has already been devastated by the impact of Covid-19 and will only be damaged further by recent developments.
We are monitoring the situation and will keep our position under constant review. However, we do expect our current advice to stand until mid-February at the earliest.
