Eight English UK members have made it to the finals of the British Council's prestigious ELTons awards.

Four language centre members are competing in three award categories, while four corporate members are all shortlisted for Excellence In Course Innovation.

Sarah Cooper, chief executive of English UK, said: "It's really pleasing to see so many of our members shortlisted for these prestigious awards, especially when they are up against stiff competition from all over the world.

"In our sector, innovation and enterprise are so important, helping providers to meet new challenges and get one step ahead. Our mission at English UK is to lead the UK English language teaching industry to success, through innovation and intelligence, and it's significant that so many more of our members have made it to the shortlist than in recent years."

The ELTons take place on Wednesday 14 June and Sarah Cooper will be presenting the course innovation award during the night. Best of luck to all our nominated members!

ELTons award categories in which English UK members are shortliste

Digital innovation:

• Embassy English, for Embassy onTrack, an assessment tool which allows visual monitoring of student progress on continuous enrolment courses.
• Mackenzie School of English, for Mackenzie Apptivities, challenges which help students learn and have fun on mini iPads.

Local innovation:

• The University of Sheffield is nominated for its EAL science booklets, developed with the city council.

Innovation in teacher resources:

• Norwich Institute of Language Education (NILE) for Power-UP, an intensive online training course for teachers with an emphasis on practicality.
• The English Language Teaching Centre at the University of Sheffield for Learning Technologies in EAP: A Practical Online Course For Teachers, which allows the trainees to engage with each other and course leaders.

Excellence in course innovation:

• Cambridge University Press with Cambridge English Language Assessment for Empower, a six-level adult course.
• Macmillan Education for Dex, a three-level course at pre-primary level.
• Pearson English for Focus Global, a blended five-level English course with a personal vocabulary record.
• OUP for Navigate, a six-level adult General English course.
