Warmest November on record

Here in the UK we are moving into the winter months - but the weather is warm enough to sit on a beach. We have just had the warmest November day ever. In Wales, the temperature reached 22.3C (72.1F) which was warmer than Barcelona in Spain or the Algarve in Portugal. 

 

Lewis Hamilton wins world racing title 

UK racing driver Lewis Hamilton won the Formula 1 Drivers' competition for a third time. He is only the second British driver to do this. He has also matched the record of driver Ayrton Senna, who was Hamilton's hero when he was a boy.

Hamilton has won 10 races this season, and 43 overall. This puts him third place in the all-time winners list, behind Michael Schumacher and Alain Prost.

 

James Bond bad guys named after school bullies?

Blofeld and Scaramanga are well known as the villains in James Bond films. Now, a member of the Blofeld family has suggested that Bond author Ian Fleming got the names from his nephew.

Tom Blofeld found school photographs from his father's old school. They showed Blofeld and Scaramanga as senior pupils, and also Ian Fleming's nephew as a younger pupil. Mr Blofeld thinks that the young Fleming went to stay with his uncle in the holidays and might have complained about Blofeld and Scaramanga making him miserable. Mr Blofeld thinks using the names might have been Fleming's way of taking revenge for his nephew.

 

Rugby World Cup ends

England has hosted the Rugby World Cup this autumn, with the game being played at packed stadiums all over the country, and watched on giant outdoor TVs. 

The England team did not make it beyond the first stage of the tournament, unlike the other UK nations of Scotland, Wales and Ireland, but there have been thrilling matches for everybody to enjoy. The final, between Australia and New Zealand, has been described as one of the best rugby matches ever seen.
