We had a Royal Wedding…

It was a public holiday, so most people had a day off work. Some people organised street parties, and others celebrated having the day off with a barbecue in the garden.

Large crowds went to London to try to see the colourful wedding procession and the Royal Family appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace after the service. It is traditional for the newly-married couple to kiss on the balcony, and Kate and William surprised journalists and the crowd by doing this twice.

Most people liked the wedding dress, designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen. And at least two special Facebook pages were set up. One celebrated the bottom of Pippa Middleton, the sister of the bride and chief bridesmaid. The other was very rude about the hat worn by Princess Beatrice, who is fifth in line to the throne.

The couple had a very short honeymoon and Prince William is now back at work as an Air Force helicopter pilot. Princess Kate has been photographed grocery shopping at a supermarket.

Most of UK enjoys hot weather

Weather experts say the UK has had the hottest April since records began in 1659. It was also a very dry month, with around 20 per cent of the usual rainfall.

Now a very hot weekend is being forecast. Temperatures may reach 81F (27C) this weekend as an unusual weather system called a Spanish Plume brings hot and damp air from the South. This may also cause thunderstorms and rain.

Lots of people in the UK are hoping for rain. Farms and gardens are suffering and there are fires burning in the countryside all over Britain.

Return of a favourite TV show

The Apprentice is back next week. This is a reality TV programme where people compete to win a place working with UK businessman Lord Alan Sugar.

The show has lots of fans because the contestants are usually very strange people. They spend a lot of time telling everyone how good they are and then fail at the business tasks they are given to do. Each week Lord Sugar tells one of them "You're fired" which means they are off the show.

This year one contestant says: "Don't tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon." Another says: "My positive approach and very good looks make me stand out from the crowd."

Scientists investigate safety of fishy beauty treatment

The latest craze in the UK is a "fish pedicure". You put your feet into a tank of special fish. The fish remove hard skin and are supposed to help improve skin problems.

Scientists from the Health Protection Agency are now investigating to see whether there are risks attached to the treatment. The organisation does not expect to ban fish pedicures in the UK. It thinks the risk of catching an infection is very small, but wants to produce advice for the public.

Some groups are also worried about the fish themselves. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says it is concerned about sudden changes in the water temperature and chemicals on people's skin which might badly affect the fish.
