New statistics: UK ELT in the global context

Our 2024 student statistics report addendum 'UK ELT in the global context' is now available to English UK members. Jodie Gray, our CEO, will be discussing this topic with senior figures from other language associations in a webinar on 3 September.

Our 2024 student statistics report addendum

Covering 2023, the 'UK ELT in the global context' addendum compares data from the eight major English language teaching (ELT) destinations.

It shows the UK hosted 37% of the global ELT student population and 17% of total global student weeks in 2023. Whilst we retained our position as the most popular ELT destination in the world, we slipped from 2nd to 3rd place (behind Australia and USA) for student week volume.

It also confirms that the UK's recovery rates last year were slightly lower than the global average.
