Christmas markets, roast turkey and mince pies are at the heart of a new English course in Devon.

English UK member centre Torquay International School has attracted students from Japan and Europe so far for its festive leisure course, which focuses on how Christmas is celebrated in the UK, and allows students to join in the fun.

Christmas in Torquay - which is available for one, two or three weeks - finishes a week before the holiday, but students have the option to remain in their homestay to celebrate Christmas with a UK family.

Kevin McNally, managing director of Torquay International School, said: "It's been really interesting that the people who have booked or taken an interest so far have been from Switzerland and Germany, which have their own very strong Christmas traditions, and Japan."

At least one of the Christmas course students has booked to stay in their homestay over Christmas before joining a general English course in January.

Planned activities for the Christmas courses include candle and cracker-making, ice-skating, traditional turkey lunch, Christmas markets, a Christmas walk on Dartmoor, and watching festive films such as Miracle on 34th Street and Love Actually.

English UK member offer all sorts of courses, from English and computer coding and English and mining, to centres with olympic training facitilities!
